Our History

Valiant Player was founded in 2003 by our President John Suchon as a support group for Michigan From The Heart, where University of Michigan student-athletes visited Mott Children's Hospital. Mr. Suchon had just completed his MBA degree and wanted to give back to the Michigan community. From there he reached out and spread the program to Southern Illinois University where he had been a student-athlete while obtaining his BS in Marketing. SIU visits then began to Southern Illinois Healthcare and the Marion VA Center.

When an opportunity arose to move to South Carolina, he expanded the program to include Clemson University and Furman University, eventually welcoming participation from Anderson University, Spartanburg Methodist University, Converse University, Limestone College, Bob Jones University and North Greenville University as well. Visits then began to PRISMA Health Children's Hospital and the Richard M Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Since its inception Valiant Player has conducted over 20,000 student-athlete visits to Children's Hospitals and VA Centers bringing joy and fellowship to veterans, children and their families. In addition events are held for kids and their families, honorary team captains are assigned to teams and participation in promotional events and toy drives are done every year with Clemson and Furman universities for Christmas for both the PRISMA Greenville facility and the Patewood campus.

In addition Mr. Suchon is also The Chairman of the Board of PRISMA's Community Advisory Council, is a volunteer with Make-A-Wish and The Ronald McDonald House and is a certified volunteer at PRISMA personally conducting all of the visits with the student-athletes.
